With the ultimate goal of representing South Africa at the Olympic Games in 2012 in the sport of triathlon, Richard Murray has already begun his journey towards improving his performances in the water, on the bike and on the run. This website will track his drive towards becoming an Olympic Athlete!

   

Richard Murray was born in Cape Town and has, since an early age, been involved with mountain biking, triathlon and duathlon. With a many years of successful junior racing under his belt, Richard is ready to tackle the world of professional racing.
With the aim of competing in the Olympics in the sport of triathlon; Richard has started to set tough goals and measures for himself that will see him improving on each leg of a triathlon. The Olympic distance triathlon consists of a 1500m swim; a 40km bike ride and a 10km run. This gruelling race is undertaken at pace and world class athletes usually complete the three-discipline event in around two hours or just below.

Richard Murray is a member of the Multi-Sport Maniacs Triathlon and Multi-Sport club based in Cape Town

 

Having already gained experience racing and training internationally, Richard is currently based in Potchefstroom and Pretoria where is he is training full time with Lindsay Parry and Emma Swanwick. With the determination to improve his swimming and become a better triathlete, he is training at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.
As a junior, Richard has attained excellent results in duathlon and mountain biking where regular podium appearances have helped him hone his athletic strength. But it is the opportunities that exist in the sport of triathlon that excited him about his future sporting goals. 2012 is his main focus.

 

SHORT TERM GOALS:
>>  To place in the top five in SA Triathlon Championships
>>  To place in the top five at the All Africa Championships

>>  To improve swim time to under 19 minutes for 1500m at altitude

>>  To keep running pace of 3min/km and gain speed and power

 

LONG TERM GOALS:

>>  To debut in the ITU triathlon and duathlon

>>  To race again in Germany and in the Bundesliga

>>  To improve his swim time to 18 – 19 minutes (over 1500m) by the 2010 triathlon season

>>  To run under 30 mins for the 10km leg of the triathlon

>>  To qualify to represent South Africa in the triathlon at the 2012 Olympic Games
